@JohnBrady Maybe less sinister than that: pedestrians who in the past would have been “in a coma” for years, living in a long-term care facility (aka “vent farms”) may have edged towards brain death and organ donation as the definition of “brain death” slipped and people pronouncing it became less and less experienced. Just a thought.
